• The AR.Drone is equipped with two video cameras. One is located at the front and the other on the underside of the AR.Drone. The footage from the cameras is transmitted via Wi-Fi to the screen of the device being used as a controller. You can then watch what’s happening in front of or beneath the AR.Drone directly on your iPhone, feel like a pilot and watch as you take down your opponent. • Fly indoors and outdoors The Parrot AR.Drone is designed for flying both outdoors and indoors. The Parrot AR.Drone comes with two protective covers, allowing you to fly in any environment. The protective cover for indoor flight prevents contact with the propeller, thereby eliminating any hazards arising from the AR.Drone’s movement indoors. The second protective cover is aerodynamic and allows for better manoeuvrability when flying outdoors. • Augmented reality Every augmented reality game is completely unique, regardless of whether you play it outdoors or at home. Software developers can utilise both of the AR.Drone’s cameras to create a video game based on the principle of augmented reality. The AR.Drone software includes functions for recognising other AR.Drones, measuring distance and gathering other essential information required to create augmented reality – it obtains this information through a sophisticated system and, above all, via its cameras. The basis for this is provided by self-adhesive labels – detection and positioning markers (included in the pack) – placed on the AR.Drone, on the floor and on walls. Depending on the apps downloaded, a whole new world opens up to users: they can race and fly in their own garden, battle aliens in the living room, and so on. • Multiplayer Another feature of the AR.Drone is the ability to use it over a network. Thanks to its own generated Wi-Fi network, players can organise their own ‘game party’, during which multiple devices can battle each other. Essentially, this is the so-called ‘Multiplayer’ mode, which is enabled by the AR.FlyingAce app. Protective covers are available in three different colours, ensuring you can easily distinguish between your own AR.Drone and an enemy’s. • Intuitive flying The AR.Drone’s body contains an inertial measurement unit, ultrasonic sensors and a vertical camera. The combination of these elements, controlled by the autopilot mode, enables extremely precise control of the quadcopter. The AR.Drone detects and responds to the movements of your iPhone (up, down, rotation, forward, backward, etc.). Anyone can fly the AR.Drone – it really is that easy. • Autopilot The autopilot ensures easy take-off and a smooth landing for the AR.Drone. After take-off, the autopilot stabilises the quadcopter at a height of 80 centimetres. If you do not touch the control buttons on the iPhone screen, the autopilot takes over and the AR. Drone will hover in place. If the Wi-Fi connection to the iPhone is lost, the autopilot will first stabilise the AR.Drone and then land it. Similarly, if you receive an incoming call whilst flying the quadcopter, the autopilot will take control, stabilise the AR.Drone, and land it after a few seconds.
